Dartford MP welcomes DPD jobs boost for City Link workers
Gareth Johnson MP tours DPD's new £2.5m Dartford depot
Dartford MP Gareth Johnson has welcomed news that the UK's favourite parceldelivery company DPD is expecting to offer employment to at least six former City Linkworkers at its rapidly growing Dartford depot. The news came as Mr Johnson MP toured the new state-of-the-art facility inWilmington, which opened in October creating 55 new jobs following a £2.5minvestment from DPD.
DPD confirmed it had already recruited four former City Link staff who lost their jobs when the company went into administration on Christmas Eve, and expects to take onat least another two.
Mr Johnson was given a two hour long tour of the depot by General Manager DanHadley which included meeting drivers, management and operations staff. The MP was also given a demonstration of DPD's unique Predict technology which notifies customers in advance of their one-hour delivery window so that they don't have to wait in all day for a parcel. The technology also lets them track their driver around his route and interact with him in real time if they can't be at home to accept their parcel.
The new purpose built, 36,000 sq. ft. depot, located in Fawkes Avenue, serves customers in South London and parts of Kent. Located just off the QE2 Bridge, the depot also serves the Bluewater shopping centre.
DPD's General Manager in Dartford, Dan Hadley commented; "It was great to have Gareth come down for a look around the depot and to be able to pass on the good news about the former City Link staff. We're a rapidly growing company and our new purpose built depot in Dartford gives us a huge advantage in terms of location and sorter technology, meaning we can increase the number of parcels we handle and service more routes cost effectively. It is a key location for us with Bluewater nearby and the new depot means we can provide an outstanding service to DPD customers in the area."
Gareth Johnson MP said; "DPD's Dartford depot is very impressive indeed. DPD is a growing company, investing in technology and infrastructure and creating jobs in our region. The team are dedicated to providing the best service possible for online retailers and other businesses. I was delighted to hear that six former City Link workers have found new jobs with DPD in Dartford and I will continue to do all I can to help those in our area affected by City Link's sudden closure.
